Hi everyone. I've uploaded the documents that guided our sessions in Dar (June 2018) and Nairobi (Oct 2018). I will soon upload the Mapping Tool, and the notes from our most recent conversation. Let's try to use this platform for all our follow up. Thank you all for being a part of his discussion!

Hi everyone, I have now uploaded the notes of our discussion at the Kenya Country Convening. Virginia Wanjiru Ngindiru has kindly developed the required mapping tool, and you can also find this in the 'More' tab above, by selecting 'Files', or on the toolbar to your left. Note that there are other actions due from Maina Gioko, and Moses Ngware! Notes from Omidyar roundtable also uploaded

Please complete the mapping tool by November 22nd!

    Thank you all!

Hi again Joshua.. Can members create their own group? Or is that something that you need to do? Can we think about the value of allowing members to create their own discussion group - so that SIGs and people who want to create anew discussion group Can do this? I also feel that we could think about the value in making the discussion gruop list directly accessible from the home page, to reduce the number of clicks that are needed to get to the grou- discussions ..thanks.. Dave

  • Hi Joshua.

Could we extend the time before the platform kicks us out? If I leave it for ten minutes, then it requires a further login.. which gives a barrier to access.. as I cannot just lzeave it on in the background, and check during the day....

Is there a way to reduce file size of photos at the point of upload to a size that the platform can cope with?

Hi website team, I had a great call with three people working on the UNESCO IIEP portal who had some good advice that we will incorporate. Overriding tip - keep it simple! I haven't heard to the contrary so we will therefore go ahead with the thematic group, communications. MEL and country tags alone. We can add more if needed.

Hello team, Please let me know of any tags that are important to you. We want as few as possible but as many as we need (!). We will have countries and thematic groups as a matter of course but what else might be useful? Many thanks, Miles

    Ideas for webse update
    Calendar on the homepage
Highlights from the on the calendar
Weekly updates listed are on the website
Weekly updates include a rolling programme of all future events
More website types pages...repository of information, RELI handbook etc...
Link the documents to the event - highlights ppt, vids etc..
    quarterly publication
    Blog
Do we need a separate website for some things? When?

  • Hi team - the platform has made great strides but still needs more. For discussion tomorrow:

    Please can we:

    1 Review against TOR (below)
2 Get a proper folder/tag hierarchy so we don't just have random documents. Populating the site will allow us to do this. I would like to be able to click LCT Kenya and see all the relevant files for example.
3 Get rid of the very detailed updates. Who is reading what is intrusive. We just want to know general messages and who has posted what recently.
4 Remove people to follow, scores etc. - we can no longer follow so it's redundant

The above would make a huge change as would the hub using the platform in lieu of emails.

Kenya would like to know: can we have an interactive map showing where everyone works and: what are the limitations on sending and posting large documents?

We should make sure that we include Ken's emailed comments (below)

    Hello Website Team,
Since I will not participate in the call, I wanted to share contribution from MEL mentors for discussions.
    1. The MEL will need establishment of online MEL resources within the platform. MEL mentors will source, review, upload and update on a quarterly basis. This will be open only to WPF, RELI Coordinator and MEL mentors because they can use it for need based surveys
    2. We need the the platform to have a SurveyMonkey (business ) that can be used for surveys with partners, basic analyses etc
    3. The platform should also have polling apps that can be used for consensus on various issues pertinent to partners (like the menti.com used in skills workshop in Dar), but also doodle for scheduling say meetings, workshops etc. These (2&3) should also improve engagements within the platform. In future webinars and even ‘blackboard’ can be used for interactive sessions by RELI partners.

Our vision is that the platform is not just a repository but a functional medium for collaboration, learning and active engagement of and with partners.

    Ken

    TOR for RELIAFRICA.ORG

    1. Scope of Assignment

RELI requires modifications to the reliafrica.org platform that will further support its members to learn together. The platform must highlight and support our values of: Trust, Respect and Equality.

    The platform should be:

    • A knowledge hub
    • A community
    • A link to member organisations

It should work on all smart phones, PC and Mac in all browsers.

    Web design

    Knowledge hub

Reliafrica.org should have folders/tags for each country and theme which contain all the documents shared between groups. The platform should make all current Google Drives redundant (except for the support team’s), thus making the platform useful at the same time as forcing people to use it. It should be the source of all knowledge generated by RELI. Reports, videos, blogs photos etc. should be tagged for easy searching.

    Community

The platform should encourage community interaction by allowing and encouraging members to upload blogs, photographs (both business and cheesy) and videos. It should not highlight friend activity – only genuine contributions. The knowledge hub should contain important documents and reports (as above) but the community section should be about fast, timely and brief learning. It should be fun and easy to use.

    Links

The platform should show links to member organisations through their websites and as individuals – thus Miles Bredin of Well Made Strategy (please check links). Currently members are individuals. This will help to make the site more useful to individuals and to Executive Directors.

    Dashboard

There should be a dashboard on the landing page allowing countries and themes to be inspired by each other’s progress.

    My comments on the website/platform:
It is important that we agree on the goal/purpose of the website, so as to customize it to suit RELI needs: (1) learning, (2) sharing, (3) repository of knowledge and (4) research

If that holds, then the following may be needed:
    -Remove the friends and followers
-introduce or link to apps that can facilitate research for collecting data from members (surveymonkey, kobotoobox, sensemaker (or others) for narrative analysis etc_) and planning or scheduling tools like Doodle.
-Linking the whatsapp groups to the platform so as to reduce the insecurities that currently exist in Uganda and TZ (without interfering with the current use of the groups)...if possible
-Enabling additional functionalities that facilitate interactive tools such as webinars, blackboards etc
-Immediately start using the polls tab to facilitate agreement on issue that require members to poll/vote
-Upload tools such as the learning questions; RELI Values etc in ways that they can be filled directly from the platform or facilitate comments
-Customize a dashboard that helps to visualize or see at a glance core information that we require from the platform to provide guidance.

Am probably thinking alot!! but my vision is that the platform is a living space that fosters the goals of RELI but also strengthens and builds trust and use.
